Arizona State University's main campus, Memorial Union building, second floor. Registration will be in room 228. There, you will find a Schedule of Events, a map of the Memorial Union building and registration forms for those students who are competing.
When?
Thursday, February 23, 2012 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The fair will not break for lunch but your students can take a lunch break between activities. They are welcome to bring their own lunch or take advantage of the many restaurants in the Memorial Union. The Memorial Union will offer an ethnic menu in the café in honor of the High School Language fair and for the students to experience a variety of menus from around the world!
Who is invited?
All high school students of all levels of foreign languages at your school are welcome to attend and to participate in a day of activities, competitions and an inter-cultural scavenger hunt. ASU students and faculty from various cultures will also participate in the fair. |
ATTENTION TEACHERS: Handouts for the 2012 Language Fair are now posted; we ask all teachers to make copies for their students and bring these to the fair, as we will not be providing copies of student materials at the fair.
TEACHERS: please print and have your students fill out the individual Student Registration Form and have their parents sign the parent permission section. Bring all registration forms to room 228 and your students will be entered to win prizes the day of the fair. Drawings will take place every 20 minutes and announced in the Ventana ballroom. NOTE: Each school must still register under the "Registration" link.
The 10,000 Solutions Project is an experimental problem-solving platform. Participants can win up to $10,000 to make their solution happen. 10,000 Solutions invites all 2012 Language Fair participants to share their ideas on how we can use language driven solutions to create a positive impact in local and global communities. What is our Goal?
To provide your students with an opportunity to demonstrate their achievements in learning a foreign language and give them an incentive to continue their studies in the future. They will gain insight into a range of cultures and languages with the different activities that we have planned for the day. If you plan to participate in the fair we do require prior registration. Please register students individually for competitions or entertainment also please register your school. You and your students are welcome to attend even if you are not competing or performing. We also welcome any suggestions or requests for activities you would like to have. Once we receive your response we will provide you with more detailed information.
The Fair welcomes all students interested in studying another language or culture. All the languages offered at ASU are scheduled to be presented at the Fair: Albanian, Arabic, Armenian, Chinese, French, German, Ancient Greek, Hebrew, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Macedonian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Sanskrit, Serbian-Croatian, Spanish, Tatar, Thai, Vietnamese, Bosnian, Hebrew, Latin, Norwegian, Persian (Farsi/Tajik), Polish, Swedish and Uzbek. There will also be professional organizations and programs at ASU who will be represented, such as: American Sign Language, Linguistics, Critical Languages Institute, International Programs Office, AZLA-Arizona Language Association, and more. A hospitality suite with beverages and cookies will also be available to the teachers.
